<< Improved performance with CANopen FD <<

CANopen FD

CANopen FD is the successor of CANopen and it is specified in the CiA specification 1301, which has been released in September 2017. CANopen FD maintains the basic principles of CANopen, but the services are adopted to make full use of the faster and longer CAN FD messages, that may now have a length of up to 64 bytes and two different bit rates. An arbitration bit rate up to 1 Mbit/s and a data bit rate up to 8 Mbit/s. Additionally, the SDO service as been replaced by the more powerful USDA service which also supports broadcast and routing through multiple CANopen FD networks. (more…)   =>

Version 1.1 of their CANopen Slave and Master stacks is released. The latest feature of the stacks is the support for Layer Settings Services (LSS) to handle node-Id assignment and the configuration of the bit rate via CANopen as defined in CiA 305. Among the LSS functions the detection and addressing of new unconfigured devices is the main task. CAN/CANopen Technology

CANopen has been the standard for open CAN based networks for nearly twenty years by now. It started as bus system for manufacturing cells in the automation and is now used in many different CANopen based systems as medical applications, lifts, mobile construction machinery, maritime applications, automation of laboratories and many others. The most recent field of application is the networking of components in pedelecs or Light Electric Vehicles (LEV). Although the standard is meant for a broader field the CiA profile is called „Energy Management Systems“.
